In과 On은 무척 휏갈리는 단어들이다.  네이티브 스피커에게는 무척 쉬운 단어들인데, 영어를 후천적으로 배운 사람들에게는 무척 어려운 그런 단어들이다.  일단, In과 On의 개괄적인 차이에 대해선 다른 꼭지에서 장황하게 떠든 바 있다.  그래서, 본 꼭지에선 position in 과 position on에 대해서만 이야기를 한다.   

position in 은 어떤 조직에서 한 사람의 직위를 뜻한다.  예를 들어 한국전자에서 과장으로 일하는 자라면, 그의 직위는 a manager in Hangook Electronics, Co. 가 된다.   달리 표현하면 His position in Hangook Electronics, Co., is a manager.  

position on 은 어떤 토픽에 대한 한 사람의 입장을 뜻한다.  예를 들어 김과장은 그 제품에 대해선 반품을 허용해야 한다고 생각한다고 한다면, 영어로 manager Kim's position on that product is to allow for returns.

예:

 Jeff's position in TK Limited, Inc., is that of Vice President.  TK 유한사에서 제프의 직위는 바로 부사장이야.

 Tom's position on the role of the government in the stock market is that of less is better,  주식시장에 있어 정부의 

 역할은 바로 개입하지 않을 수록 좋다는 것이 탐의 입장이야

 Jinhwan has an important position in the company.  진환은 회사에서 요직을 맏고 있어.

 Jinhwan has a different position on the purchase from Hyunsoo.  구매건에 관해 진환은 현수와는 다른 입장을 갖

 고있다.
